Movie review: Gothica
Release Date 2003

The definition of Gothica is medieval: as if belonging to the Middle Ages; old-fashioned and unenlightened, which is exactly what psychiatrist Amanda Grey is where her patient Chloe Sava and her husband Dr. Douglas Grey are concerned.

Dr. Miranda Grey is an expert at rational, logical explanations. Her patient Chloe Sava is neither rational nor logical, at least not in Dr. Grey’s mindset. So what happens when Dr. Grey is detoured on her way home from work and wakes up three days later on the side where logical and rational no longer play a part?

This is a ghost story that definitely holds a moral; don’t just listen to people when they speak to you, listen with your heart. This is a must see thriller.

Book Review

When the President and Chief Operating Officer of Gen-Stone dies in a plane crash, stock holders learn that the promising cure for cancer not only looks like it may not be as promising as it once looked, but that millions of dollars have been diverted from the company as well. Many people are on the verge of loosing every penny they invested in Gen-Stone. The once heroic Nicholas Spencer is now seen as a scam artist until reporter Carly DeCarlo begins research on a personal insight into the life of Spencer.

Every thing that DeCarlo learns makes her think that Spencer wasn’t as bad as what he now appears to be. The more she digs, the more mysteries she finds. The closer she comes to the truth, the less likely she is to survive long enough to report her findings.

Not an edge of the seat page turned; but interesting enough to keep the book in your hand whenever you have a moment to read.

book Review:

As usual Reich does an excellent job with her Temperance Brennan character, unfortunately, this, the third in the Brennan series has a tendency to become a bit slow towards mid book. I believe that she could have sufficed with less detail, however, if you skim across the central detail you will come back to the page turner that Reich is famous for.

Forensic Anthropologist Temperance Brennan’s private detective work almost gets her killed and an undercover cop’s cover blown; but needless to say, good overtakes evil, even when the evil comes as North American Motor Cycle Clubs and Brennan’s own nephew’s kicks with an ex – cycle wannabe.

Maybe not fast and furious but still worth the read.

Darkest Instinct
© 1996 Robert W Walker

Darkest Instinct is another novel in the Jessica Coran, forensic medical examiner series.

Coran travels to the Keys in Florida to examine an excessive amount of body parts being found, undigested in sharks at a research laboratory. What she discovers directly ties the body parts to a series of battered, bloated bodies which have been washing onto shores in the Miami area.

It is soon determined that not only is the coastline of Florida being taunted by a serial killer, but a sadistic serial killer who strangles his victims nearly to death and brings them back to consciousness just to strangle them again. He then places then in the ocean, unconscious, but still alive, dragging them through the water, drowning them.

Some of his victims show signs of severed limbs, severed prior to their death. Others show signs of chemical preservation; all are stored after death until the killer sees fit to release them, allowing them to float ashore.

The FBI is pressured to locate the killer before he strikes again; however, due to political maneuvering, they are not allowed to broadcast their findings. Jessica Coran, upset by the political meanderings, releases information, but too late for the killer to claim his glory, he has already moved to the west coast of Florida, where he strikes again. The FBI and interdepartmental agencies throughout Florida work to beat the clock, hopeing to stop the killer who always seems to stay a step ahead of them.

Coran, taking every piece of information she can gather, realizes that this is not a serial killer that has been forever based in the United States, his killing spree began in the British Isles. Taking note of what she learns, Coran convinces her boss to come with her to the Caymen Islands where she believes the killer is headed. All signs point to the killer remaining on the Florida coast.

Will Coran be able to outwit this serial killer? It’s a page turner, get the book and find out for yourself.
